Pet Care Tips for Pet Owners Young and Old

3 Qualities Any Pet Sitter You Hire Must Have

There are times when you will have to go about your daily activities and you cannot take your dog with you. You will then have to seek out the help of someone who can take care of your pet while you are away. If you find yourself in such a situation but are unable to find a family member or a friend to take care of your pet, the next best option is to hire a pet sitter. Here are some tips to help you find a good pet sitter.

Calm Disposition

A good pet sitter is one that is calm no matter what the situation. Dogs can be unpredictable, especially when it is time to separate from their owner. If your pet acts up and is not cooperative from time to time, you need someone with the patience to tolerate and soothe your pet. A calm pet sitter will easily put any agitation your dog may be feeling about your separation to rest very quickly.

Flexibility

Just like with your dog's behavior, there will be times when things in your schedule do not go as planned. You may end up having to stay at the office a little later or you may be stuck in traffic and unable to get home at the agreed time. Due to these sometimes unplanned and unavoidable events, you should choose a sitter who is flexible and can work along with you when things go a little off track.

Consistency

If your dog is trained a certain way, it is important that you choose a sitter who gives them the same disciplinary instructions that you do. For example, you may not allow your dog to beg at the table or sleep in the sofa. If you have these rules then any sitter that you hire must also follow them, so that there is a consistent pattern of discipline whether you are there or not.

Failure to adhere to these kinds of rules will throw your pet into a tailspin of confusion. This will result in you having to retrain your dog time and time again about the rules, so make sure you and your pet sitter are on the same page when it comes to discipline.

The qualities listed above are must haves in any sitter that you hire. These qualities will ensure that your pet is comfortable and happy while you are away. Discover more on pet services here.

About Me

Pet Care Tips for Pet Owners Young and Old

I loved animals when I was growing up, and my first pet was a hamster. I loved waking up in the middle of the night just to watch him run on his wheel! Once I proved to my parents that I could care for him well, they then allowed me to get a dog who I also loved. When I moved out of the house as an adult, I also adopted a cat, a pet rat, and an iguana. I enjoy researching animal care before I adopt new pets and putting what I learn into action. However, one thing I also love is teaching new pet owners how to care for their animals. I decided to create a blog to share my pet care tips with everyone who needs a little extra help learning how to care for their animal companions!
